Is Jordan Safe Right Now?

Developing Story|Last Updated: March 1, 2026 at 12:35 AM UTC

Jordan has intercepted multiple Iranian drones transiting Jordanian airspace en route to targets in Israel and the Gulf. The Jordanian Armed Forces shot down the drones over Amman and eastern Jordan. King Abdullah has placed the military on highest alert and closed all Jordanian airspace to civilian traffic.

While Jordan is not a direct target of Iranian military strikes, its geographic position between Iran and Israel places it in the flight path of missiles and drones. Jordan has significant experience intercepting Iranian aerial threats, having done so during Iran's April 2024 attack on Israel.

Queen Alia International Airport in Amman has suspended most operations. Jordan's borders with Iraq and Syria are under heightened security. US and allied forces at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan are on full alert. Residents should avoid outdoor activities and monitor Royal Jordanian government communications.
